The most common reasons for Ingrown toenail are: - Excessive curvature of the nail resulting in the edges cutting into the skin, this is known as a involuted nail - Thick and discoloured nails as a result of trauma or fungal growth - Wrong nail cutting technique leading to ingrowing nails - Damage to the existing nail resulting in another nail growing underneath which can cause pain and discomfort. Also known as retronychia. Treatment: cut back the nail, dressing and advice on Nail surgery if need it
